Having counseled with several people who have been betrayed by those they loved most, I believe the Lord has enabled me to identify several choices that are necessary if you hope to be healed and restored. Refuse to define your life by this one tragic event. It is a real part of your life but that is all—just a part. Choose to protect those you love—parents, siblings, and friends—who would be hurt by this information. There is nothing to be gained by telling them so why make them suffer? Consciously choose to set aside the “why” questions. Even if you could understand “why” everything happened as it did it would not change one thing.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

— 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)

Lord help us to focus on restoring the relationship rather than punishing the betrayer. Amen.
