I owed God a sin debt I could never pay. I had sinned against Him more times than I can count, transgressed His holy law again and again, betrayed His trust and broken our relationship repeatedly over the course of my lifetime. And yet He forgave me again and again! You would think I would be the most merciful of all people considering what God has done for me. But I’m not. I can be petty and unforgiving, carefully hoarding my grievances, making a shrine out of my hurts. You’ve probably done the same thing. God forgives us an incalculable sin debt and yet we won’t forgive those who have wronged us. What are we thinking?
“If you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
— Matthew 6:15 (NIV 1984)
Lord forgive us for not forgiving those who sin against us. Amen.
