Maybe the most amazing part of Joseph’s “rags to riches” story is not the fact that he went from a prisoner to the second most powerful man in Egypt. It is the fact that he maintained his faith in God under the most trying circumstances and the fact that he never allowed bitterness to take root in his heart. He was able to look beyond the unspeakable things that happened to him and see the hand of God at work. He told his terrified and guilt-ridden brothers, “‘Don’t be afraid…You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish…the saving of many lives’” (Genesis 50:19-20).

“Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.”

— Hebrews 12:15 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, remind us that You can redeem the worst the enemy brings against us and us it for good. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
