Don’t complain about the tensions in your family. Instead, ask God to use them to expose and root out all areas of selfishness in your life. See each irritating situation as an opportunity for you to lay down your life in loving service—not as a doormat or a self-pitying martyr, but as an act of surrender to God. Marriage and family tension is often the crucible God uses to form the character of Christ in us.

“Endure hardship as discipline…No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

— Hebrews 12:7, 11 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, I’m not the godly person I thought I was. Family stress has laid bare my selfishness. Forgive me and change me. In Your holy name I pray, amen.
