The early Church understood clearly the high cost of commitment to Christ. “…before the end of the first century the word for witness and the word for martyr had become the same Greek word. The word is martus; its original meaning in ordinary Greek was witness; but this is the word which came also to mean martyr, because in that time the man who was a witness had every chance of being a martyr too.”

“I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.”

— Philippians 1:20 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, help us to be willing to live and/or die for You. Amen.
