William Temple writes, “…there is only one sin, and it is characteristic of the whole world. It is the self-will which prefers my' way to God's--which putsme’ in the centre where only God is in place.” That being the case then it must be equally true that there is only one temptation: the ever-present temptation to choose my will over God’s will. At the root of every spiritual struggle, there are two forces at war. Not so much good and evil, but God and self—what I call the almighty ‘I’.

Lord Jesus, help us to choose Your will over our will. Amen.
