Come with me to Bangladesh. Take a bus to the Ganges River. Get on a ferry and travel 3 more hours. Get on another bus and travel 4 or 5 hours until you come to the end of the road. Now board a dugout canoe and go 8 hours upriver to a village. Each day we ate curry and rice from stained bowls with our fingers. It was meager fare, but the fellowship was rich. I’ve eaten grander meals, but I’ve never experienced warmer hospitality or such sacrificial generosity. It was the closest thing to New Testament hospitality I’ve ever experienced.

“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.”

— Acts 2:46

Lord help us to open our hearts and our homes, not only to family and friends, but to the newcomer as well. Amen.
