Recently I saw a picture of a smart phone. The caption underneath said, “This remarkable devise enables you to stay in touch with friends all over the world. Unfortunately, it alienates you from those who are nearby.” Sad but true. Social media, for all its convenience and promise, hasn’t brought us together. If anything, it has crippled our ability to communicate and build authentic relationships. That’s the exact opposite of New Testament Christianity. At its core Christianity is about relationships—first with the Lord and then with each other. In our culture that’s a daunting challenge.
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
— Romans 12:10 (NIV)
Lord help us to overcome our inhibitions. Teach us to love and honor each other. Amen.
