Before our conversion to Jesus Christ the almighty “I” sat on the throne of our lives dictating our sinful actions. At the moment of conversion his stranglehold on our will was broken. Now we are free to choose who we will serve—God or self. Although the almighty “I” has not yet been destroyed, he is no longer the “strong man” holding us captive and we are no longer at his mercy. He is still a deadly enemy to be sure, and not one to be taken lightly, but he is no longer in charge of our lives. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we shall overcome.
