At the age of twenty-three I was called to be the pastor of a significant church. It was heady stuff for a novice pastor and I soon fell prey to pride. Almost without realizing it I began to think more highly of myself than I should have and like Humpty Dumpty, I had a great fall and not all the king’s horses nor all the king’s men could put me back together again. But what all the king’s men couldn’t do the king’s Son did. He put this broken man back together again.

“Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

–Proverbs 16:18 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me a second chance. Deliver me from pride and fulfil Your purpose in my life. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
