Today I am celebrating my 73rd birthday and I find myself thinking more and more about eternity. I’m comforted by the knowledge that when my earthly life ends I will be more alive than ever before. A poem from my childhood plays repeatedly in my mind. “Only one life t’will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.” More than anything I want to hear my Lord say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21 KJV).

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

— John 11:25 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, thank you for overcoming death, hell and the grave. Because of the resurrection I am free from all fear of death. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
