Differences of opinion can escalate into conflict if we are not careful. Conflict becomes a crisis once our egos get involved. Once that happens it’s all about winning. Being right, winning the argument, becomes more important than the relationship. Once our egos get involved, we are willing to sacrifice the relationship to win the argument. Ask yourself, “What’s more important to me winning the argument or restoring the relationship?”

“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”

— Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, deliver us from our inordinate need to always be right. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
