Isolation and solitude are two decidedly different things. They may look alike – that is both are characterized by aloneness – but they are not the same. When we choose to be alone, that is solitude, but when we are forced to be alone, that is isolation. Even then we can choose to make peace with our loneliness, thus transforming isolation into solitude. And in solitude – alone with the Lord – our spiritual and emotional energies are renewed.

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”

— Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Lord Jesus, teach us to embrace our loneliness, to turn our solitude into intimacy with You. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
