On Palm Sunday the worshippers were delirious with joy. At last, their hopes and dreams of deliverance were about to be realized. After hundreds of years of cruel mistreatment and devastating disappointments—hundreds of years in which foreign armies invaded their land, occupied their cities, and led their best and brightest young men into exile—they were about to be delivered or so they thought. They were dancing in the streets because they believed Jesus was about to fulfill Daniel’s prophecy.
