On February 12, 2010, University of Alabama Professor Amy Bishop shot and killed three professors at a faculty meeting at the University of Alabama Huntsville Campus. What sparked this killing spree? Anger! Amy Bishop was angry because she was denied tenure. Unfortunately, this was not the first time she allowed her anger to get out of control. In 1986 she “accidentally” shot and killed her brother with a shot gun. Years later she was charged with assault when she struck a woman in an argument over a booster chair in a restaurant. She is an extreme example to be sure, but it illustrates just how deadly anger can be.

“An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.”

— Proverbs 29:22 (NIV)

Lord forgive us and deliver us anger. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
