Another leadership lesson we can learn from Moses is to receive wise counsel. When Moses’ father-in-law saw how overwhelmed Moses was because of the demands of leadership (see Exodus 18) he said, “‘This is not good! You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. Now listen to me, and let me give you a word of advice, and may God be with you.’ Moses listened to his father-in-law’s advice and followed his suggestions” (Exodus 18:17-19, 24).
Do you have anyone in your life who can give you wise counsel? Are you seeking their guidance?
“For whoever finds [wisdom] finds life and receives favor from the Lord.”
— Proverbs 8:35 (NIV 1984)
Lord, give us a discerning heart to make wise decisions. Amen.
