When I was a young preacher I made some foolish mistakes. In the aftermath I grew depressed and I wondered if God still loved me. In the wee hours of the morning I found myself alone in the living room and unable to sleep. “God,” I prayed, “do You love me?” In that instant my 18-month-old daughter pulled herself up on the couch and straddled my chest. Putting her chubby hands on my tear damp cheeks she said, “Luv you daddy.” It was her voice I heard but it was the Lord who spoke to me.
“I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!”
— Jeremiah 31:3 (MSG)
Lord Jesus, it’s been nearly fifty years but I’ve never forgotten that holy moment and I’ve never doubted Your love. Thank You for loving me. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
