The second factor in the early church’s effectiveness is the transformed character and biblical compassion of believers. Those traits continue to this day and remain the hallmark of true Christ followers. People like Mark and Huldah Buntain, Paul Brand, Charles Colson, and Mother Teresa immediately come to mind. But as remarkable as their lives and ministries were, there are millions of people whose lives will never be touched with the love and compassion of Jesus unless you and I do it.

Father God, give us eyes to see the suffering of others, hands to reach out and touch them with Your love, and a compassionate heart. Amen.
