When Jesus staggered through the streets of Jerusalem like a drunk man from loss of blood and the weight of the cross, He was still able to comfort the weeping daughters of that city because God was with Him. When the Roman soldiers nailed Him to the cross, He could pray for them because God was with Him (see Luke 23:34). And because God was with Him, He could promise the dying criminal a place in paradise.

“…[God] has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ…you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.”

— Colossians 1:22 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, thank You for suffering the judgment that was rightfully ours, making it possible for us to be reconciled to God. In Your holy name we pray, amen.
