Phillip Keller says the shepherd endures great hardship as he prepares the summer range for his sheep. In the same way Jesus endured the lonely agony of Gethsemane and horror of Golgotha to prepare a table for us. It cost Jesus His very life. But His death produced life for us. His body was broken that we might be made whole. He died that we might live! Well did He say,
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
— John 10:11 (NIV)
Lord Jesus, we receive Your broken body and Your blood with glad and thankful hearts. The table You have prepared for us is all we need. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
