When David writes, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1 KJV), he is not talking just about provision. He is not simply saying when God is my shepherd, He supplies all my material needs. Rather he is saying when the LORD is my shepherd, I am fully satisfied whatever my circumstances. When the LORD is my shepherd I stop wanting things. I’m free from the need to grab and get. I’m no longer driven to acquire. The shepherd Himself is all I need or want! The apostle Paul put it this way:
“…I have learned how to be content with whatever I have…I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.”
— Philippians 4:11-12 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, teach me to be content in any and every situation. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
