The Psalmist said when the Lord is truly our shepherd, we will be free from wanting things. Unfortunately, freedom from wanting “things” eludes us most of the time. Many of us live with a restless neediness. But it’s not a need not a need for things, nor a need for a new automobile or a job promotion. We’ve had those things and the restlessness never went away, at least not fully, or for very long. When we’re restless it’s our soul’s way of saying, “Your relationship with the shepherd needs attention.” When our relationship with the shepherd is right, we’re fully satisfied. We have an inner security, a peace no matter what is going on in our life.

“Those who are hungry and thirsty to be right with God are happy, because they will be filled.”

— Matthew 5:6 (NLV)

Lord Jesus, be all we need. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
