The late Professor Leo Buscaglia tells the story of a young lady in one of his classes who took her own life. She left a suicide note in her apartment saying that she was going to walk down a busy street for several blocks. If just one person smiled at her or greeted her then she wouldn’t kill herself. Apparently, no one did for she went back to her apartment and ended her life. I can’t help thinking how different her life might have been if only one person had encouraged her. It makes me wonder if there is anyone in my life dying for a word of encouragement.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
Lord Jesus, help us encourage one another. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
