When John Steinbeck was writing “East of Eden,” he began each writing day with a letter to his friend and editor. Those letters became a kind of commentary on the novel itself. I can distinctly remember hoping that someday I might have a relationship like that—a friend who shared my love of books and my passion for writing. God graciously granted my desire. That was thirty years ago and today our friendship is stronger than ever. Why? Because it is built on our shared faith in Jesus Christ, our mutual appreciation for the written word, and a common commitment to advance the Kingdom.

“Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself.”

— 1 Samuel 18:1 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, thank you for blessing me with a friend like that. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
