For eighteen months, John and his wife lived with death as their seven-year-old daughter battled leukemia. It was a roller coaster ride of highs and lows: periods of remission when hope was as exhilarating as the first barefoot day of spring, followed by a major relapse when hope was shattered on the rocks of reality. Finally death won, or so it seemed. Laura Lue died in her own bed, in her own room as the snow fell softly outside her window.
