We are complex beings, and our belonging needs can be met only through fellowship with God and a network of loving people. In relationship with God we satisfy our hearts’ deepest hunger for spiritual intimacy. Our need for emotional intimacy is met in loving family relationships. Yet, for all of that, we still long for something more, a place to belong, a place where we can know and be known, what the New Testament calls koninea.
“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.”
— 1 John 1:3
Lord Jesus, our relationships are often superficial and unfulfilling. Give us the authentic relationships for which our hearts hunger. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
