What makes the danger of money and power so difficult to address is because God promises to bless and empower His people. However, at least two things distinguish His blessing from the power-brokering materialism of the world. First, it is a consequence, rather than a goal. Second, mature believers see themselves as stewards, not owners. All wealth and power belongs to the Father. We are simply stewards managing them for Kingdom good.

“Command those who are rich in this present world…to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves…”

— 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, protect us from the love of money and give us generous hearts. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
