The guests varied from week to week but we almost never ate Sunday dinner alone. We might scrimp all week, as Mom used to say, but on Sundays we always had a feast. When we couldn’t possibly eat another bite, we kids disappeared outdoors, while the adults lingered around the table talking for an hour or two. That’s all they did – just talked. At the time, it seemed like such a waste to me. Now, I know better. That kind of talking nourishes the soul and reaffirms our place in the world.
“The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life…The lips of the righteous nourish many.”
— Proverbs 10:11, 21
Lord Jesus, thank You for good friends who speak into our lives and for fellowship that nourishes our soul. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
