Even though the Lord bestowed grace on Jacob that does not mean that he got away scot-free. We reap what we sow and Jacob’s reaping came at the hands of his uncle Laban. Jacob fell in love with Rachel, Laban’s youngest daughter and he agreed to work without wages for seven years to earn the right to marry her. When the seven years were up, Laban switched brides and Jacob unwittingly married Leah instead of Rachel. “Finish this daughter’s bridal week” Laban said, “then we will give you the younger one also, in return for another seven years of work” (Genesis 29:27). So Jacob ended up working fourteen years without wages. His sins had come home to roost!

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”

— Galatians 6:7 (ESV)

Lord Jesus help me to sow love, mercy, and kindness so that I may reap the same. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
