Although David did some unspeakably evil things we do not remember him as an adulterer or a murderer. Unlike so many others who have succumbed to temptation David did not crash and burn. Rather than languishing in shame and regret he threw himself on the mercies of God. He prayed, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51:1-2).

No matter how grievously you’ve sinned God stands ready to forgive and restore you.

“‘Come now, let’s settle this,’
says the Lord.
‘Though your sins are like scarlet,
I will make them as white as snow….’”

— Isaiah 1:18 (NLT)

Lord Jesus, hear my confession and forgive my sin. Deliver me from guilt lest I be overcome. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
