Some of you are probably reading today’s devotion while dealing with an aching heart. You may hide your hurt behind a brave smile but on the inside, it feels like you are dying. I think I have some idea what you’re feeling. Two years ago, my wife of fifty-six years went to be with the Lord. During those dark days immediately following her death two things sustained me: 1) The promise of the Lord’s presence and 2) the hope of eternal life. Those truths did not take my pain away, but they gave me the strength to bear it.

Lord be very near to those whose are hurting. Amen.
