When my wife underwent brain surgery to clip an aneurysm my brother, two nieces, a close friend, and my pastor and his wife came to pray with Brenda before she went into surgery, and to sit with me during surgery. In a way that I cannot explain, their presence strengthened my faith and sustained me during the long hours Brenda was in the operating room. I call that the ministry of presence. The Bible calls it bearing one another’s burdens.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
— Galatians 6:2 (KJV)
Lord Jesus, forgive us when we turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the needs of others. Grant us compassion so we can bear one another’s burdens. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
