The importance of family is most evident in the dark hours immediately following a tragic accident or while battling a life-threatening illness. Years ago, when our seemingly indestructible father underwent open-heart surgery, the strength of our lifelong family bonds stood us in good stead. We supported one another. We prayed together when praying alone was more than we could manage. And as Dad recovered, we filled his hospital room with the healing gift of laughter, recalling childhood pranks and family fun.

“Joseph threw himself upon his father and wept over him and kissed him.”

— Genesis 50:1

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of family, for the joy and strength it always brings, but especially when trouble strikes. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
