It’s easy to limit our Christian service to “spiritual” things. You know – Bible studies, choir, fellowship groups with “our kind of people.” Nice things, safe things, which let us feel we are serving without running the risk of getting our hands dirty. It’s a subtle trap, and one not easily discerned – a trap in which we mistake busyness for commitment, and religious activity for true spiritual activism.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!…you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.”

— Matthew 23:23

Lord Jesus, help us to be spiritual activists serving others rather than religious busybodies. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
