When calamity struck Job and his family his wife encouraged him to curse God and die (Job 2:9). Don’t be too hard on her. Think of what she’s lost. In a single day bands of foreign raiders swept in killing Job’s servants and carrying off his livestock. Then his sheep and his herdsmen were killed in a freak storm. Later that same day a savage wind blew in from the desert destroying the house where their children were feasting, killing every one of them (see Job 1:13-19). A few days later Satan afflicted Job with painful boils from the soles of his feet to the top of his head (Job 2:7). No wonder she had a crisis of faith!
“The Lord is good,
— Nahum 1:7 (NKJV)
A stronghold in the day of trouble…”
Lord, increase our faith that we may stand in the day of trouble. Amen.
