Someone has said that justice is getting what you deserve. Mercy is not getting what you deserve and grace is getting what you don’t deserve. Justice would put a millstone around our necks and cast us into the ocean. That’s what we deserved. But instead of justice we received mercy and grace. Grace gave us what we desperately needed but did not deserve—forgiveness. Rather than casting us out on the scrap heap of life, the Lord gives us another chance.

“[God] does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities…
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

— Psalm 103:10 & 12 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, continue to remind me that Your grace is greater than my sin lest I despair. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
