Thanksgiving is maybe my favorite time of the year. As a boy we always celebrated with our extended family—cousins, aunts, and uncles. Sometimes our pastor and his family joined us. The men usually spent the morning hunting while the woman prepared a Thanksgiving feast. After a huge meal the guys retired to the living room to watch football while the women played table games and visited. I can’t remember giving much thanks, and that grieves me, but maybe just spending time with family was a way of giving thanks. I know that when I look back on those days my heart overflows with thanks to the Lord.
