Elisha’s father was a wealthy landowner, and Elisha was in line to inherit all that his father had, but his encounter with Elijah changed all of that. To answer the Spirit’s call, Elisha had to give up everything. He left his father and mother. He killed his oxen and burned his plow lest he be tempted to turn back when things got tough.

What about you? Are you willing to burn your bridges so there’s no way for you to go back? Or are you hedging your bets in case things don’t work out?

“Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’”

— Luke 9:62 (NIV)

Lord Jesus, help us to realize that following You is an all or nothing proposition. There’s no going back. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
