In the first wilderness temptation everything that Jesus believed about Himself was challenged by the enemy. “And the devil said to Him, ‘If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread'” (Luke 4:3). Although Jesus was physically and emotionally wasted, He did not fall prey to the enemy’s trap. Instead of being baited into turning stones into bread to “prove” He was divine, He says, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God'” (Luke 4:4). Personal achievements will pass away but the Word of the Father is established forever.
“Forever, O Lord,
— Psalm 119:89 (AMP)
Your word is settled in heaven [standing firm and unchangeable].”
Lord, help us to establish our identity only on Your word. Amen.
