To the subjective discipline of prayer we add the objective discipline of study, especially the study of God’s Word. Even as we study the Word we remind ourselves that it is bread to be eaten, not literature to be admired. We are continually putting it into practice and letting it change our life. For our devotional life to be complete we need to read devotional classics and other books that deal with the inner life. It is enormously beneficial to learn from the experience of those who have walked this way before us.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

— 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

Lord Jesus, help us to hide Your Word in our hearts that we might be transformed until we are conformed to Your likeness. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
