When I think of a man of character my thoughts always turn to my Uncle Ernie. He was not a great man as the world counts greatness. He was, however, a special man, a throwback to an earlier age when the measure of a man was determined by the quality of his character rather than the power of his personality. In truth, he was one of those men who “wore well” – that is, the longer you knew him the more you appreciated him.

“Now the overseer must be above reproach… He must also have a good reputation with outsiders.”

— 1 Timothy 3:2, 7

Lord Jesus, help us to be men and women of character, that Your name may be praised. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
