My experience suggests that God most often speaks in extraordinary ways when we are going to face unusual challenges. Knowing that Peter would be risking the disapproval of his peers, as well as breaking the traditions of a lifetime by going to the home of an uncircumcised gentile, God made His will emphatically clear through a vision and providential circumstances. Had His direction been any less dramatic, Peter might not have had the courage to take the gospel to the Gentiles at Cornelius’s house.
“The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them.”
— Acts 11:12
Lord Jesus, give us the faith and the courage to obey Your voice, even if it means risking the misunderstanding and disapproval of others. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
