A parable is a story (think fiction) about people who did not exist doing things that never happen. Yet, in Jesus’ case His fictitious stories are full of eternal truth. To a lesser degree that is what an anointed writer does when he spins a story. He disarms the reader by disguising truth as fiction. That’s what Nathan did when he confronted David (2 Samuel 12:1-7). That’s what C.S. Lewis did when he wrote “The Chronicles of Narnia.” Think about that the next time you are tempted to condescendingly reject fiction as not being worth your time.

“He [Jesus]did not say anything to them without using a parable.”

— Mark 4:34 (NIV)

Lord Jesus may our hearts and minds always be grounded in Your Word. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
