Tunnels collapse when the external pressure is greater than the internal supports. The same thing is true in our own lives. When the pressures of life—things like financial difficulties, marital conflict, wayward children, and/or health problems—exert more pressure than our spiritual resources can bear we risk an emotional collapse. External pressure is often beyond our control. There’s nothing we can do to reduce the stress. So, what can we do? We can increase our inner resources; we can strengthen our spiritual man by praying in the Spirit. Jude exhorts us:

“…dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit…”

— Jude 20 (NIV 1984)

Lord Jesus, clothe us with the whole armor of God and strengthen our inner man. Amen.
