We should not be surprised when we are despised by the world. To their way of thinking we are judgmental and intolerant. There are even some “Christians” who think we are getting what we deserve. They suggest that if we were more Christlike—more loving and more accepting—the world would embrace us. That would be nice but it’s not what Jesus taught. He said, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first…That is why the world hates you…If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also” (John 15:18-20).

Lord, strengthen us that we may stand when persecution comes. Amen.
