The choices Daniel made determined the man he became—a man of moral strength and spiritual integrity. For reasons unknown to us he refused to defile himself with the royal food and wine (Dan. 1:8). Perhaps it violated the dietary laws of Moses. Or maybe he simply concluded that it was the first small step toward becoming conformed to Babylonian culture and that was a step he was determined not to take. Whatever the reason, he was willing to risk the King’s wrath rather than violate his religious convictions.
“So watch your step. Use your head…Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants.”
— Ephesians 5:15-17 (MSG)
Lord Jesus give us the courage and the wisdom to live according to our convictions. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
