When we approach God with less than complete honesty, we become actors playing a role – what the Bible calls a hypocrite. As a consequence, we can have only the most superficial relationship with Him because the self we bring to the relationship is a false self. When we pretend to be something we are not, our spiritual life lacks vitality and our relationships are shallow and unfulfilling.
