Whatever I am today as a man, a minister, a husband, a father, and a friend, I owe in large part to my father. He was a powerful presence in my life until the day he died at the age of 83 and his influence shapes me still. He wasn’t a man much given to words yet almost everything I know about being a man of God I learned from him, not from what he said but by watching the way he lived. He served God with an unflagging determination. He loved my mother and treated her with great respect. Nothing was more important to him than his family and he repeatedly laid down his life to care for us.

“Pay close attention to what your father tells you.”

— Proverbs 1:8 (MSG)

Lord thank you for godly fathers who have shaped our lives. Amen.
