Isolation and solitude are not the same thing. They look alike – that is both are characterized by aloneness – but they are not the same. When we choose to be alone, that is solitude, but when we are forced to be alone, that is isolation. Even then we can choose to make peace with our loneliness, thus transforming isolation into solitude. And in solitude – alone with the Lord – our spiritual and emotional energies are renewed.
“For even young people tire and drop out,
— Isaiah 40:30-31 (MSG)
young folk in their prime stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.
They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired,
they walk and don’t lag behind.”
Lord Jesus, teach us to embrace our loneliness, to turn our solitude into intimacy with You. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
