Daniel grew up during Judah’s darkest days and he was taken into exile by the Babylonians, yet he became a man of impeccable character and spiritual integrity. So how was that possible? It was a cooperative work between Daniel and the Holy Spirit. Daniel 1:8 says, “Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself.” If you are going to live a godly life there are certain things you cannot do and certain people you cannot run with. You must purpose in your heart that you will not defile yourself.
